Everything You Need to Know About Hybrid Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation has long been one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries sought out by women. According to the latest statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the procedure was the fifth most performed cosmetic surgery for women in 2020. Over the past decade, advances in implant materials and surgical techniques have significantly boosted patient satisfaction with the procedure’s results. A newly emerging technique known as hybrid breast augmentation further enhances patient satisfaction and will likely increase annual breast augmentation numbers.
The rising popularity of hybrid breast augmentation has reached southwest Florida, as the skilled surgeons at Naples Plastic Surgery have noticed an increase in the number of women asking for more details about the procedure. With advanced training in cosmetic breast surgery, Dr. Leo Baccaro offers hybrid breast augmentation at our Naples-based surgical facility. As our leading expert in this augmentation trend, Dr. Baccaro can tell you everything you need to know about the procedure and use his surgical artistry to sculpt the breasts you’ve long desired.
What Exactly is Hybrid Breast Augmentation?
Also known as “composite” breast augmentation, hybrid breast augmentation relies on fat grafting to enhance and expand upon the results that traditional breast implants can achieve. By using fat transfers, the cosmetic surgeon can sculpt the breast shape beyond the changes in shape and size that can be secured by augmenting with breast implants alone. Your surgeon can manipulate the fat transfers to refine the breast shape, while also increasing volume in the breasts’ upper poles and enhancing the cleavage. The fat transfers also help resolve any asymmetries between the individual breasts and provide either a more “natural” or “augmented” look, according to patient desires. The shape, position and cleavage that can be achieved with hybrid breast augmentation leads to a more detailed result that can be achieved by traditional implant surgery. Other benefits of hybrid breast augmentation at Naples Plastic Surgery include:
- Creation of a well supported implant with aesthetic cleavage lines ideal for “bra-less” fashion
- Women can choose smaller implants, reducing surgical trauma and potential skin stretching caused by larger implants.
- Reduced risk of capsular contracture (scar tissue formation around implants).
- Reduced risk of rippling.
- Improved skin elasticity around the breasts.
- Enhanced body contours at fat transfer sites.
- Boost in body image and self-confidence.
How the Hybrid Breast Augmentation Procedure is Performed
Hybrid breast augmentation at Naples Plastic Surgery is preceded by an in-depth consultation designed to pinpoint the patient’s desired aesthetic goals and develop a surgical plan for achieving them. Our surgical facility uses a Vectra 3D breast augmentation simulator to provide patients with a visual representation of possible aesthetic results. This helps the surgeon and patient strategically map out implant size, fat transfer placement, breast shape, and symmetry to guide the upcoming surgery. It also helps them determine where the needed fat should be withdrawn.
The actual surgery begins with the patient receiving general anesthesia. Y our surgeon will insert the implants under the breasts and muscles in what is known as a “modified dual plane” procedure, and use an “internal bra” stitch to further support the implant and provide longevity to the results. Fat grafts are withdrawn from the chosen transfer sites via liposuction and then filtered prior to injection, minimizing trauma to the harvested tissue and decreasing the risk of infection the treated fat is injected into targeted areas, creating a beautiful contour according to the specifications agreed to during the consultation.
Recovering from Hybrid Breast Augmentation Surgery
Hybrid breast augmentation surgery is an outpatient procedure, and patients can return to their homes the same day after recovering from the effects of the anesthesia in the recovery room. Patients need to protect their breasts with a soft post-surgical support bra for at least a week after the surgery and compression garments over the fat transfer sites. Pain medications and antibiotics may be prescribed to reduce pain and aid recovery. Most patients should limit their physical activity for a day or two after the procedure. They typically need one to two weeks of downtime before they can resume most usual daily activities. Patients can usually perform moderate physical activity after two to three weeks but should refrain from vigorous exercise and physical activity for at least five to six weeks.
